The village of Kostenets is one of the oldest and most beautiful settlements in Bulgaria, with remains dating from two centuries BC. It is located at the foot of Rila Mountain on the northern slope, 78 km. southeast of Sofia, 6 km. south of Kostenets town and 35 km. east of Borovets. The altitude varies from 650 m in the north to 725 m in the south. The immediate proximity to the Pan-European Transport Corridor 8 and the Sofia-Plovdiv railway line, as well as the Trakia highway, are good prerequisites for tourism development.

Right next to the village is the Villa Kostenets Resort. There is the starting point for tourist hikes to "Gurgulitsa" hut, "Belmeken" hut, "Musala" peak, "Zavrachitsa" peak, "Malyovitsa" peak and Marichinite lakes. In the resort is the Kostensky waterfall. The waterfall is located in the center of the resort and all mountain routes in this part of Rila depart from it. The height of the water fall is about 10m.
