English Wedding at Pamporovo Ski Runs
Two English subjects swore eternal fidelity in the very middle of a ski run in Pamporovo resort
yesterday. The ground in front of Bohemians restaurant played the role of a church for Christopher
Brown (30) and his beloved Catherine Green (25). They were wedded by Father Stanimir who serves in Pamporovo church. The groom and the bride as well as the priest himself arrived on skis at the site of the ritual watched by astonished tourists all around. Only a day before the two Englishmen were baptized according to the Eastern Orthodox tradition in the Assumption church in Pamporovo. On the eve of his birthday Christopher proposed to Catherine. A friend of theirs - a ski instructor was their best woman. While Father Stanimir was crossing the crowns over their heads and proceeded with the ceremony, a great multitude of skiers gathered by to watch the unusual wedding taking place on the white snow. The wedding turned into a grand merrymaking on the ski runs themselves with everybody present.
The strangest place in Bulgaria where wedding parties have been thrown is Yagodina Cave, not far away from Pamporovo. So far, over 20 couples have gotten married there. The last wedding occurred there in November last year. The tradition enjoins that the groom and the bride are welcomed with a bagpiper playing. Then the whole procession is to make a tour of the cave and the bridesmaids are to see to it that the bride's dress is not touching the ground.
