Working Foreigners
The Government approved a package of amendments to the effective legislation, regulating the residence and employment of foreigners in Bulgaria. The amendments supplement the scope of application and the conditions for admission of foreigners on business assignments. The term “foreigner” is replaced by “workers or employees”, who are further differentiated into “workers and employees from European Union member states” and “workers and employees from third states”. The new provisions allow for the application of the more favourable employment conditions – either those in effect in the country of residence, or those in effect in Bulgaria, as the case might be. The amendments relate also to a number of administrative procedures regarding the exchange of information between employment authorities in Bulgaria and abroad. The new provisions will become effective as of the date of Bulgaria’s accession to the EU.
