How to buy property in Bulgaria after Brexit?
If you come from the UK and you wish to buy property in Bulgaria, it is still possible after Brexit.
Bulgarian law puts restrictions to foreign persons to own land. Exceptions to this rule are applicable only for EU persons. After Bulgaria joined the EU, they were allowed to buy houses with gardens and building plots of land in Bulgaria on their own names. This was valid for the British citizens while the UK was part of the EU.
Now that this has changed, the regulation for Brits on buying property in Bulgaria reverts to the general rule for not being able to own land - the same it used to be before Bulgaria joined the EU back in 2007.
So, if you wish to buy a house with garden or a plot of land and you come from the UK, you now need to register a Bulgarian company and buy the property on its name. Read more about the company registration procedure
As for apartments - most of them are sold without land, so in most of the cases you will still be able to buy an apartment without any limitations.
For visiting and using your property in Bulgaria you need to travel with a valid passport and can stay in Bulgaria for up to 90 days in any 180-day period without a visa.
This applies if you travel as a tourist, to visit for family or friends, to attend business meetings, cultural or sports events, or for short-term studies or training.
