Danube Bridge 2 between Romania and Bulgaria set in operation
Danube Bridge 2, which links the Bulgarian town of Vidin to Romania's Calafat, was put into operation yesterday. Danube Bridge 2 is now available for pedestrians from Vidin and Calafat. It is expected that the bridge will open for car and rail traffic in early spring.
The Danube Bridge 2 is part of the Pan-European corridor IV, which passes through nine countries. Although the bridge is ready in its main part, the finishing work will continue until the end of the year, according to contractors. The bridge will become fully functional in 2013. Over 100 000 vehicles are expected to pass through the bridge each year.
International freight and passenger railway station has been build at the territory of Bulgaria. Bulgarian-Romanian company, which will manage and operate the Danube Bridge 2, will create about 50 new jobs.
The new Danube Bridge 2 provides prospects in several directions: it creates jobs on both river banks as well as it becomes preferred place for passing a flow of trucks, and offers opportunities for investment in the region.
So far there is no significant movement on the real estate market, estate agents said. Data of local Revenue Agency shows that the number of companies with foreign capital increased two-fold in the region in the last year.
